About the Ian Potter Library

The library is a separate institution, independent of the Monash University Library. It supports and resources the learning, teaching and research activities of staff and students based at the Alfred campus. In addition to general medicine and surgery, collection strengths are:

  • immunology
  • epidemiology and preventive medicine

The library also supports the staff and students based in the other AMREP partner institutions, ie the Alfred Hospital, the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute and the Burnet Institute.

Who may borrow from this library

  • Site based Monash staff and students while on clinical placements, practical placements or enrolled in one or more subjects affiliated with a Monash University Department based at the Monash Medical School (Alfred).

Loans

  • Eligible users require a current Monash University staff or student ID card. Ask at the Ian Potter Library desk to register before borrowing.
  • Other Monash University staff, students and CAVAL card holders may borrow Monash University Library material only using their Monash ID card or CAVAL card.
  • The Ian Potter Library has its own collection and loans system. This means that the loan status (ie availability) shown in the Monash University Library catalogue may not be accurate and the item may not be available on the shelves.
  • Monash University Library owned materials held at the Alfred and listed in the Monash University Library catalogue are often available for loan through the Loan requests function. Requested items can be picked up at a Monash University branch library or at the Ian Potter Library.
  • Restrictions apply to the loan of some materials held, eg books in the short loan section are not available for intercampus loan.
  • The Ian Potter Library catalogue is accessible only via the Bayside Health intranet.
