About the Ian Potter Library
The library is a separate
institution, independent of the Monash University Library. It supports
and resources the learning, teaching and research activities of staff
and students based at the Alfred campus. In addition to general medicine
and surgery, collection strengths are:
- immunology
- epidemiology and preventive medicine
The library also supports the staff and students based in the other
AMREP partner institutions, ie the Alfred
Hospital, the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute and the Burnet Institute.
Who may borrow from this library
- Site based Monash staff and students while on clinical
placements, practical placements or enrolled in one or more subjects
affiliated with a Monash University Department based at the Monash
Medical School (Alfred).
Loans
- Eligible users require a current Monash University staff or student
ID card. Ask at the Ian Potter Library desk to register before borrowing.
- Other Monash University staff, students and CAVAL
card holders may borrow Monash University Library material only using
their Monash ID card or CAVAL card.
- The Ian Potter Library has its own collection and loans system. This
means that the loan status (ie availability) shown in the Monash
University Library catalogue may not be accurate and the item may
not be available on the shelves.
- Monash University Library owned materials held at the Alfred and
listed in the Monash University Library catalogue are often available
for loan through the Loan
requests function. Requested items can be picked up at a Monash
University branch library or at the Ian Potter Library.
- Restrictions apply to the loan of some materials held, eg books
in the short loan section are not available for intercampus loan.
- The Ian Potter Library catalogue is accessible only via the Bayside
Health intranet.
Guidelines for use
The library staff provide support to:
- Site based Monash staff and students while on clinical placements,
practical placements or enrolled in one or more subjects affiliated
with a Monash University Department based at the Monash Medical School
(Alfred)
- Health sciences professionals
Library staff are able to provide only limited assistance to the following
groups:
- Other Monash University staff and students
- Other Monash borrowers, such as CAVAL or Alumni borrowers
Photocopying
- purchase a rechargeable photocopy card for $1 (card only)
- add 10c per copy value to the card before use
- Monash University Library cards can only be used in Monash University
branch libraries
Undergraduate students may request intercampus
photocopying of journal articles or book chapters from Monash University
Library material held at any Monash University branch library, the
Ian Potter Library (Alfred Hospital) or Southern Health Library for
a $2.70 fee per article.
Staff and postgraduate students, including Honours
students, can request items not available in their home library or online
through the library’s Document
Delivery Service.
